Before we get any mail that condemns us for our choices, let’s state up front that we’re not saying that 50-year-old trucks are better than current models. Yes, there are plenty of people out there who believe so, who say things like “they don’t make ’em like they used to” or “the old way was the right way.”
We completely understand that the trucks from the 1960-1966 were worse in almost every way: louder, more dangerous, slower, less horsepower, less torque, less reliable, and harder to drive. Did we mention that they were louder? Nevertheless, nostalgia dictates that we must do a double take any time we pass one, that we must pull over when we see a congregation of them at a car show, and that we must promise to buy one to fix up and drive around at some point in the not-too-distant future.
These images of some GMC trucks that are five decades old (or in some cases, reconstructions or replicas of trucks that are five decades old) should fill the need nicely on a Sunday to reminisce if you’re old enough to remember them or dream about them if you’re younger. These aren’t the types of trucks you’ll find at your local GMC dealer, but thanks to the internet, it’s possible to find a dream truck like these on eBay. Links to the image sources are at the bottom.
