Scion is offering two brand new models for 2016, the iA and iM. The iM is showing up as a fun and functional compact five –door hatchback that has a starting price under $20,000. This hatchback is built on the Toyota Auris platform that has been popular in Europe but never seen in the US. This will give us a chance to finally see a version of the Auris here and enjoy the compact hatchback styling and energy offered by Scion. This amazing new hatchback is expected to arrive this fall to start the new model year off right.
Even though the basic styling comes from the Auris, the iM is more aggressive with its detailing offering a front fascia with Piano Black accents, LED running lights and a V-shaped look to the Scion emblem on the front of the grill. The angle from the hood to the roof is much lower than other hatchbacks, giving the appearance of some length over other vehicles. The overall look is somewhat sporty and with bespoke headlight and taillight treatments you can have an iM that offers a custom look giving you a singular vehicle.
The new iM will be powered by the Toyota 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine with Valvematic continuously variable timing which is normally found in the Corolla. The iM will offer 137 horsepower and 126 lb.-ft. of torque and is mated to a six-speed manual transmission or a CVTi-S which is a CVT with custom tuned Sport Sequential Shiftmatic Mode to give the tranny the feel of a seventh gear. The expected combined fuel mileage for the iM is expected to be 36 mph for the manual and 37 for the automatic giving it a decent fuel mileage for you to enjoy and help keep the trips to the gas pump to a minimum.
Scion has been a division of Toyota that makes it easy to choose a car. The hardest part is choosing between the standard or automatic as Scion models only offer a few options and no long list of trim levels to choose from. The iM shows up loaded with road noise reduction technology including an acoustic windshield, a contoured cabin with front sport bucket seats and a flat folding 60/40 rear bench. The amenities that are included as standard fare come in the form of the multifunction steering wheel that offers a tilt/telescoping feature, a 4.2-inch color driver information display, Eco-Driving indicator, cruise control, keyless remote and dual zone automatic climate control.
The technology included in the iM shows up with a six-speaker Pioneer Display Audio system that shows off a 7.0-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth connectivity and much more. Add in the advanced safety features and this Scion iM is a well-equipped hatchback that offers plenty of amazing features to enjoy. As it is, the iM and iA are two offerings from Scion that both show up well under the $20,000 price mark which makes them great choices for those who are just starting out to get a lot of car for money in order to have a great car that is fun to drive and great on gas mileage.
