Whether it’s pride, ego, or just the lack of thought, the Porsche 911 GT3, Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R and Chevrolet Corvette Z06 all offer little to no adjustments for aerodynamics. Dodge thinks a bit differently, showing up with a full menu of ten different aerodynamic components to be adjusted, removed, added and offer the track ability that you want when you buy a Dodge Viper ACR. Whether you are looking for more downforce, a better air flow, a lower wing to cut the wind harder, or just want a specific look, the Viper offers you the option to create the car of your dreams, at least from an aerodynamic standpoint.
Many track only cars offer a ton of aerodynamic adjustments, certainly more than the Viper ACR, the because this car is still a street ready and legal machine the ten adjustment offered are nearly unheard of for any car on the road. While the Viper ACR already offer some of the greatest down force offered there is the optional Extreme Aero package that comes with a removable front splitter extension, an adjustable dual-element rear wing, four dive planes, six removable diffuser strakes, removable brake ducts, and hood louvers that can be popped out to improve the air presser on the wheel wells.
All the equipment offered helps create a push of nearly 2000 psi of downforce at 177 mph. Of course that includes the use of the large rear wing that helps to push the vehicle down so hard it seems as if this car should be digging a hole in the ground as it moves, not gliding quickly along the top of a track only an inch or so from the blacktop. This kind of air force give this car the ability to confidently travel at greater speeds without hindrance.
With all this force driving the car downward, the ACR needs to have plenty of support to handle hard cornering and make the turns at top speeds without any hesitation. The car shows up wearing huge 19-inch Kumho Ecsta V720 tires that are 295/25 up front and 355/30 in back to deliver what is needed for 1.5-g cornering. To keep this car in control a large set of carbon-ceramic Brembo brakes have been put in place and the Bilstein piston shocks help to give this car the control that is needed to offer a huge amount of performance and speed for the awesome car that the Viper ACR has become.
The power for this mean beast shows up coming from the 8.4-liter V-10 that hasn’t been reduced any more than making a reduction in the exhaust’s backpressure with new exhaust tips. This growling engine offers up 645 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque. All of this is attached to a six-speed manual transmission in rear drive. With this engine aboard there is no doubt the Viper ACR is one of the most amazing cars on or off the track and with the amount of adjustments that can be made to the aerodynamics, is an exciting ride.
