The Ram 1500 is the pickup truck that continues to offer us what we want in our trucks. Even though the fuel prices have been dropping as of late, no one really knows when or if they will rise again. When fuel costs rise those of us who use our trucks for work on a daily basis or as a commuter vehicle end up paying the price and have to create much more room in our budgets for this increase in fuel costs. In order to help with this the Ram 1500 offers us some great features that are aimed at improving fuel mileage.
Two of these features that help to improve the fuel mileage of this truck are the active air suspension and active grill shutter. The suspension can lower the vehicle to reduce the drag and the shutter can close to also cut down on the drag allowing for a more efficient ride. These features make the Ram 1500 a truck that contuse to be a hard worker but keeps up with our needs. Because this truck recently had a massive remodel it doesn’t change much for 2016 but somehow does have an increased towing capacity that brings it to 10,700 pounds.
Under the hood the engines offered begin with the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine that comes with 305 horsepower and 269 lb.-ft. of torque. All engines are mated to the eight-speed automatic transmission and with this one you have a wide range of fuel mileage starting at a low of 11 city/15 hwy mpg for the 4WD using E85 and a high of 18 city/25 hwy mpg for the 2WD in the HFE trim. This gives you a powertrain that is plenty powerful for everyday driving and efficient enough to make it affordable.
Next is the 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 engine which is made for the low end torque. This engine shows up with 240 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque to be a fantastic power machine, which is why we love a diesel truck. This model offers you fuel mileage of 20 city/28 hwy mpg for the 2WD model and 19 city/27 hwy mpg for the 4WD version. At the largest of the engine offerings we see a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 that brings the power of 395 horsepower and 410 lb.-ft. of torque. This is a great blend of power across the rpm range and gives us a range of fuel mileages as well starting at a low of 13 city/19 hwy mpg from the 4wd with the six-speed automatic to a high of 15 city/22 hwy mpg from the 2WD with the eight-speed automatic installed.
